Summer and July is a fantastic book ( especially for summer) and what better day to blog about it then the day that my favorite scene in the book takes place. The book is centered toward the ages of 9-90 and would be rated 10/10 by me. I would say that this is the essential summer read and is perfect for the current season and month of July. The book follows a girl named Juliette who is anticipating a HORRIBLE summer. She has to visit a beach town in California AND be separated from her best friend Fern who her mom won’t let her see because she is a ” bad influence”. Juliette also feels very alone in the beach town because her, with her goth clothes and eye makeup definitely doesn’t fit in with the cheeriness of this town, especially the cheeriness of one girl, Summer. However, as Juliette gets to know the town, and especially Summer, she starts to peel back her goth exterior and dig deeper into the girl she really is. Summer, who becomes her good friend, is always cheery, at least that’s what Juliette thought, until she realized that Summer had begun to act odd, even sad. And soon, Juliette figures out why and must discover how to be an assuaging friend.
