Lore by Alexandra Bracken

If you are looking for a suspenseful, riveting, interesting, and fantastic read, Lore is the book for you. I would give this book a 100/10, and recommend it for audiences 13 and up (as long as the reader is not sensitive to violence). This book tells the elaborate story of Lore, a girl who lives in modern day New York City. Lore is different from regular New Yorkers though, since she belongs to the Perseus line, and is the only surviving member. Little do regular people know, but every seven years the Agon begins. During the Agon, Greek Gods roam New York City as mortals. These Gods can be killed by others, and if they are, will lose their power, and give it up to the person who killed them. Everyone wants a God’s power, so each year leading up to the Agon, Greek family lines are trained in combat, strategy and much more so that they have the opportunity to kill a God. Lore hates the Agon, and only wanted to escape it. So, she gave up the life she knew to fend for herself and live life as  a regular human being. However, years after she gave that world up, her childhood friend, Castor, seeks her out, and Athena, wounded, calls on her for help and drags her back into the Agon. As Castor, Lore, and Athena grow even closer, the Agon threatens them even more. Will Lore be able to help Athena, Castor, and herself, or will she die trying? Read this amazing book full of deceit, betrayal, and much more to find out. This was my choice for the book bracket of March, so I recommend checking that bracket out here.
