I really enjoyed ” Where the Mountain Meets the Moon”. It was a quick, easy, enthralling, fun, and educating book that I would rate a 10/10! I recommend it for ages 10 and up, though it has nothing inappropriate ( I just think these ages would appreciate it more). This Newbery Honor Book tells the story of a young girl named Minli who lives in a sad place called the Village Of the Fruitless Mountain. Hence the name, not much grows there, except for rice. So, her family’s life consists of farming rice all day long. Minli’s family is also very poor, and the only thing they have to eat is rice. They always have just enough to survive, but not enough for Minli. Minli wants more. She wants good fortune. She wants to make her Ma and Ba proud. So, when Minli hears her Ba’s tales of the Old Man of The moon, a man who is said to know everything, she sets off on a quest to find him and ask him how she can attain good fortune. In her travels, she meets many people and friends, and even a dragon, who can’t fly, who aides her journey. But, if and when Minli makes it to the Old Man of the Moon, she might have an even more pressing question to ask. Read this fantastic and well written book to find out if Minli makes it, and if she really can bring good fortune to her village!
