The war that saved my life is a great book. I would rate it 9/10 and I think it is very enjoyable for people of all ages. This book is historical fiction and is based in world war 2 so your knowledge of history grows incredibly throughout the course of this book. The book starts with Ada and Jamie, two siblings who love each other very much and both have a mother who is cruel to them. Ada, who has a clubfoot is used to crawling on the floor and has never been let outside of her Ma’am’s tiny cramped apartment for her whole life. Jamie, Ada’s brother is not treated much better but at least he is allowed to be free and roam in the village. Soon it comes to Ada’s attention that due to the war going on Ma’am is going to send Jamie away to a safer city than London, but not Ada because Ma’am thinks of her as useless. So with this new knowledge, Ada starts to teach herself to walk, and one morning when it is time for Jamie to evacuate Ada comes with him. Soon they find themselves in the hands of Susan, a stiff woman who may come off as unfriendly at first. However ,as the days go on Ada and Jamie grow to love Susan for many reasons, like her horse Butter that Ada is able to ride. But, Ada and Jamie know that this is too good to be true, because what if Ma’am comes back and finds them? How will they survive then? Read this amazing book to find out.
